Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Lumist Studio's local-first architecture.

How can Lumist Studio be 100% free with no monthly subscriptions?

All 15 utilities execute directly on your local hardware, eliminating database servers, cloud compute clusters, and backend API processing costs. Zero cloud operational overhead allows us to offer the entire suite for free without renting your data back through monthly subscription paywalls.

Does anything get uploaded to a server?

Absolutely zero. Your mockups, color palettes, kanban boards, code snippets, and timesheets remain stored entirely inside your browser's sandboxed IndexedDB. We run zero analytics, zero user tracking, and zero remote storage servers. Your data never leaves your device.

Do I need an internet connection to use the suite?

An internet connection is required only when loading a tool for the first time. To protect your network bandwidth, the application does not force-download assets for all 15 utilities at once. Once a tool has loaded into browser memory, all image compression, color scraping, and document parsing run offline without transmitting network data.

Why do the browser extensions require permissions?

Our MV3 companion extensions utilize the activeTab permission model. Unlike extensions that demand broad, permanent host permissions across every website you visit, Lumist extensions read the active DOM only when you explicitly click their icon in your toolbar.

Can I lose my local data if I clear my browser cache?

Browser cache evictions can occasionally clear local storage. Lumist Safe eliminates this risk by utilizing the native File System Access API to perform rolling 15-minute background auto-saves of your workspace directly to a selected folder on your physical hard drive.

How can I verify that my data is genuinely staying on my local device?

Audit network traffic directly using your browser's Developer Tools (F12). Open the Network tab, compress an image, or run a regex match. You will observe zero outgoing HTTP payloads, zero telemetry pings, and zero third-party tracking scripts.

What happens if the browser clears my IndexedDB storage? Will I lose my work?

Modern browsers classify IndexedDB as persistent storage, but extreme disk pressure can trigger cleanup routines. Lumist Safe requests browser persistent-storage clearance and pairs it with rolling hard drive exports to guarantee your master workspace data remains safe and recoverable.

Does the local folder auto-sync feature (Lumist Safe) work on all browsers?

The native File System Access API is fully supported in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera). For non-Chromium environments (Firefox, LibreWolf, and Safari) that restrict filesystem handles, Safe provides a one-click JSON master export so your data remains portable across devices.
